Soyoung Nam is a classically trained pianist and passionate educator originally from Seoul, South Korea. She began her musical journey at the prestigious Sunhwa Arts School and Sunhwa Arts High School, institutions known for cultivating young artistic talent. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from Seoul National University, one of Korea’s most esteemed universities.
Soyoung continued her musical education in the United States, attending graduate programs at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music and the Peabody Conservatory. She later completed her Master’s degree in Piano Performance at San Jose State University under the mentorship of renowned pianist Dr. Gwendolyn Mok. With a deep commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians, Soyoung has dedicated herself to teaching young pianists. Her teaching philosophy centers on helping students build a strong musical foundation while encouraging them to explore their own expressive voices through the piano. She believes that learning music is not just about technical skill, but also about developing emotional sensitivity and an appreciation for beauty.
